Essential Service Jobs that We Take for Granted

The Lake Oconee Boomers Team

Service jobs make up the backbone of our country. Even so, many of these hard-working men and women still go unnoticed and underappreciated in the workforce—especially if they dedicated their lives to the community. Take this opportunity to learn about a few of the service jobs that we take for granted and the essential role they play in our standard of life.

Firefighters and Paramedics

Sometimes working 24 hours a day, these professionals regularly put themselves in harm’s way to ensure that we get taken care of in an accident. Whether they run into burning buildings or push to bring us back from the brink, both firefighters and paramedics are ready for whatever comes their way.

Linemen

When the power goes out in a community, linemen take the call. From potential electrical shocks to extreme heights, the day in the life of a lineman is filled with dangerous conditions that require them to stay alert. Despite these dangers, they suit up and set out each day to ensure we have the power we need to fuel our homes.

Police Officers

Also putting their lives on the line to keep us safe, police officers take to the streets each night with no real idea of what could happen. Understanding the dangers and risks, they seek to prevent harmful accidents from occurring and ensure that they don’t happen again.

Garbage Collectors

Not much thought goes into the what happens after we place our trash out on the curb, but picking up after ourselves is essential to maintaining the community. It’s for this reason that garbage collectors set out on various schedules, no matter the weather conditions, to remove the trash from our properties.

Retail Workers

Shopping is key to our economic stability as a society, which means there needs to be workers who set out to make the experience as pleasurable as possible. Retail workers do just that. They’re tasked with supplying us with our desired goods while maintaining an orderly and helpful environment for all to enjoy.

Teachers

A teacher strives to foster the growth of all the young minds that wander through their classroom. They go to great lengths to provide our children with the resources they need to learn and succeed later in life. They’re extremely patient individuals who find value in preparing their students for harder challenges down the road.
