Home Improvements To Complete Before Fall

Summer is almost at an end, and there’s still so much to do. You probably have a long list of fun activities to get through, but before you give those a gander, think about what you need to tackle on the home front. Sure, you’ve heard of spring cleaning, but that’s not the only time you can get your house in order. Check out these home improvements to complete before fall.

Wash It Away

Summer is busy and eventful, and your home can attest to this fact. All you need to do is look at its exterior for further evidence. Don’t be ashamed of the dirt accumulated along the sides. It was inevitable, and it’s rectifiable. Simply wash it away.

More specifically, you should pressure wash it. You can either purchase a pressure washer yourself or hire someone to do the work for you. Pressure washing is a fairly easy task and better for the exterior walls of your home than power washing. A power washer pushes out steaming hot water that might have a negative effect on your home.

Add a Fresh Coat

Now that you’ve washed the side walls, porch, and windows of your home, get your paintbrush out. Cleaning up the exterior makes your home look fresh again, but it doesn’t necessarily give it a shine. Look at the most prominent areas of your home and apply a fresh coat.

Spruce up your front porch by adding a fresh coat of paint to your front door, pillars, and any other areas of your home that need it. By the time those first leaves fall and fresh autumn air hits, your home will be able to welcome the seasonal changes beautifully.

Treat the Windows

With fall comes a cooler breeze and a serious change in weather. Eventually, after autumn, winter arrives. Thus, it’s vital that you protect your home from drafts or any bouts of coldness. Start off with the windows and check to see if there are any faults in the installation. Over time, the original caulk on the windows can wear away.

Get a few tubes of caulk from a hardware store and start applying them to your windows. You’ll save money on your heating bill because no more heat will seep out, and no more cold air will sneak in. Depending on the number of windows you have, this task shouldn’t take you longer than a day to complete.

Attack the Gutters

It’s a good idea to give your gutters a once-over before they get too clogged up. Fall might be the worst or best time for gutters, depending on how you view it. During autumn, your gutters will collect so many leaves and experience lots of rain.

Make sure you clear out the remnants of summer before fall has a chance to let loose. After you clear them out, run a hose or your pressure washer through them to remove any more buildups that are too hard for your hands to handle.

Once you get these home improvements completed before fall, you can start to focus on the upcoming season.
