Athens’ hospitals announced on Friday the formation of a committee to explore ways they can collaborate to address the area’s medical needs.
The eight-member joint subcommittee officially formed this week when officials at St. Mary’s Health Care System, Athens Regional Medical Center and Athens Regional Health System signed a joint resolution.
They plan to hold an inaugural meeting sometime next month, said the hospitals’ spokespersons.
“Some immediate topics for discussion are projects such as working together on a Community Health Needs Assessment and then discussing how we can pool our resources and meet those needs together when possible,” said Marilyn Farmer, chair of the board of trustees for Athens Regional Health System, in a news release issued Friday by St. Mary’s. “We will also review the benefits of becoming Accountable Care Organizations.”
